Katie Re’ Scheidt

Artist Bio & Statement

Expressionist painter Katie Ré Scheidt, was born in NYC and raised in Bronxville, NY. Always an artist at heart, at the age of sixteen she spent a summer in Florence Italy, drawing from plaster casts and doing life drawing at Studio Cecil Graves. Scheidt continued with occasional art classes at Georgetown University where she majored in Psychology. Scheidt ultimately pursued a career on Wall Street where she spent more than a decade, while taking some night classes at School of Visual Art in New York to keep up her practice. A 9/11 survivor, Scheidt stayed with her firm eight years after the tragedy to rebuild, and in 2010 she retired along with her husband, to the hills of Litchfield County, CT where they raise their two children.

With her focus on her art and family, Scheidt’s “second act” blossomed quickly as she immediately began selling her work professionally to designers and homeowners, and swiftly gained gallery representation up and down the east coast.

Scheidt has built a robust business in custom paintings, ranging from abstracts, portraiture, landscapes and nudes. Amid layered fields of color and expressive strokes of pigment, bare canvas and fragile charcoal lines, her imagery bursts before you as painterly moments come together to create a whole. Scheidt’s use of color is both sumptuous and candid, lending a lush choreography to her work.

Scheidt's work can be found in private collections worldwide. Her work currently hangs at Auberge Resorts and Relais & Chateaux hotels in New England like The Mayflower Grace Hotel & Spa inWashington, CT and Winvian Farms in Warren, CT.

“Much like improv, my canvases are unscripted and often left in a state of dynamic incompletion. Trusting my inner voice, and putting my ego away, I can flood color, make marks, react honestly and support choices...having no specified goal. It’s about letting ideas flow with the suspension of judgement.”
