Artist Statement

Born in 1938, Marty Carey graduated from the school of the Worcester Art Museum and the Yale University School of Art and Architecture. His work has shown at the Ekstrom Gallery in New York, The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum, The Worcester Art Museum and is in the public collections of the Kansas Art Institute, the Chicago Art Institute, Rose Art Museum of Brandeis University, the De Menil Collection and the Worcester Art Museum. His paintings and drawings are part of many private and corporate collections. Looking at Twilight Birches, the artist transports us into his canvas at that magical, transitional time of the day as the sun begins to set. We can feel the moisture in the grasses and the rich depth of the water while imagining the gentle rustling of leaves in the birch trees. If you have a special place you would like to portray, the artist is available for commissions if you contact us.
